One of my favorite poems ever is a poem by Robert Frost called "The Road Not Taken." I remember having to deconstruct this poem in high school, and a stanza (I believe thats what subsections of poems are called) stuck with me in particular.
"I shall be telling this with a sigh. Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."
The poem essentially is the opposite of our culture--the BANDWAGON culture, and speaks to you finding your own way, making your own lane, something I wish more of us did. When driving home from Los Angeles, and looking at the scenery, and the snow--yes, snow in California does exist a fact I learned on this trip, I actually started to think of that line, and wondered if I really was taking the road less traveled, I feel yes.
I think a lot of times, individuals get caught in not wanting to appear strange, or different and take the easy route in life whether it's not speaking up for themselves, living above their means to say that can afford stuff while they struggle and eat top ramen, staying in a job they hate with a passion and I don't feel like I fit into this life.
Yes, I love money, but I feel like I rather be creative and do my passion, and let that pay off. I'd never want to get stuck in bullshit because that's all I could do. With that being said, I got a new job which I plan to stay in for a few months so I can save up and move--but out of the Bay Area. Despite not ever really liking Los Angeles, that's a front runner, along with New York. I want to actually do my passion of writing, and despite how many no's I hear or how difficult it is in this life where online media is killing print publications, I'm determined, so I will excel. I rather take a different road than my parents, friends or family, and despite there being possible difficulties or windy roads to my overall destination, I plan to act as if I am a track and field star and hurdle over them.
Any here are some additional pictures from my trip to LA, I'll also do a full fledged post on pictures--I need to start blogging more. Check out my flickr and you can see everything here.
