Don't Be A Fair Weather Fan

Since the conception of music stood the quintessential listener, the fan. The fan, essentially determines the likelihood of an artist to grow through their opinions and the purchasing of their projects, however, in current times, it appears individuals are biased fans not really looking for an artist to expand and grow. To consider yourself a fan of any artists, there are a few different elements you must keep in mind.

First, you must listen to every project with an open mind. A lot of people, who have favorite artists, listen to projects already assuming they will love this album, however, it’s best if you actually give it a try and really listen to it to see how you gravitate towards the project. There could be key songs that you love from the project, and you could realistically listen to the project and love it all, but there’s a chance that you won’t which is fine and doesn’t make you any less of a fan.

Secondly, address what you don’t like. Any artist making music essentially would want to have a lasting life in the music world, so critiques and honest feedback can help them grow. If you glorify everything that they put out, it’s not forcing them to expand and to create masterpieces it’s placing them in a comfortable place because they feel that everyone loves what it is that they are doing which is a complete disservice for them as the artist and you as the listener.

Third, support them. A lot of people are fans of an artist however through the accessibility of social media and music blogs individuals opt for online resources to get the music instead of actually supporting their favorites in record sales. In all honesty, a listener could still support their favorite artist by attending concerts and etc, but the true nature of a fan is through albums and buying them in record stores and etc, reading the album covers, the thank yous and endlessly finding the lyrics in albums. With fans opting for illegal downloading more so, it is essentially taking away from record stores, making them close and making artists put out music not so frequently because they know they wont sell too well.

To be a great fan of any artists, it’s always best that you are an honest fan, and an open-minded listener. Don’t glorify every project they do in hopes to hold your position as fan, but give honest feedback to help them expand and grow as an artists, essentially, that’s our job as a music listener.
